Monthly Training Conducted

2nd July 2022: Conducted monthly training at Gorkha girls Hostel:

Monthly training was conducted at Gorkha girl’s hostel from 7:00 am on 2nd July 2022 (Saturday). Information about corporal punishment, video content on corporal punishment, empowerment, violence, bullying, and disagreement is ok were the training topics for that day.

day.

Corporal Punishment and its video:

During the corporal punishment, session girls shared that, they have faced corporal punishment at school in Bajhang. During that time, they feel very humiliated. After the session, the girls knew that no one has the right to beat them. At last, the girls also mentioned that if anyone beats or scolds them, then they are going to complain to the concerned authorities.

At first, the girls agreed that if they make a mistake then the teacher have the right to beat them. After watching the “Good Morning Sir” video of Maha Jodi (Mr. Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansa Aacharya), they realized beating is illegal. They enjoyed watching the informative video.

Empowerment:

During the empowerment session, the PC tried to explain to them to understand that empowerment which means the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one’s life and claiming one’s rights.

The importance of empowerment is:

  • to be able to make decisions on personal matters.
  • to be able to take action
  • to be able to participate in access to distribution of opportunities and resources.

Empowering Self Portraits

Each girl was given a paper and pen and was asked to draw a portrait of her, write her name, and write (around the page) her one good quality. After that, each participant passes her portrait to the person sitting on the right side and, then the person who gets the portrait should add one good quality that she admires in her (seeing the name of the person) onto her page. Now, again that person will pass the respective portrait to the person sitting on her right side and write one good quality about that person. This goes on until everyone gets their own “empowered portraits”.

The girls enjoyed the positive comments from their friends.

Violence and bullying:

Violence is a behavior intended to hurt someone physically or mentally – it is a behavior that causes someone to feel fear or pain. Anyone can be a perpetrator of violence and anyone can be a victim of violence.

Bullying is a type of violence and aggressive behavior that is intentionally targeted at a person or a group of persons and that is based on an unequal power or strength. Usually, bullying is repeated over time. Bullying can be physical (for example hitting or pulling someone’s hair), verbal (for example teasing) or emotional (for example using gestures or talking vicious things about someone, or excluding someone from a group). It is often hard for people who are bullied to defend themselves, but we can all be allies against bullying. Bullying is never the victim’s fault. This information was passed on to girls at training.

They enjoy the whole training and promise the trainer to use it in their personal life.
